Digging Further Into Our Roots:
Sedgefield Interior Landscapes’ Company History
Sedgefield Interior Landscapes, Inc. was founded in 1952 in Greensboro, North Carolina by Karl and Frances Korstad. As a third-generation family business, we are very proud of our involvement in the development of the industry.
Karl Korstad is recognized as one of the pioneers in interior landscaping. He served on the national board of the Associated Landscape Contractors of America (ALCA), later known as Planet, and was instrumental in the formation of the Interior Landscape Division of ALCA. This led to the development of standards for our industry that are still used today.
Karl was honored after his death in 1994 with induction into the Florida Nurserymen and Growers Association and California Interior Plantscape Association Hall of Fames.
Sedgefield began as an exterior landscape firm and became both an interior and exterior landscape firm in 1969 with our first interior installation for the Westinghouse Corporation. In 1971, we opened a second office in Charlotte, North Carolina. Sedgefield began doing more interior landscape work, and by 1976 had opened the current corporate headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia.
We came to a crossroads with our tremendous growth, and in 1981 decided to concentrate our full efforts toward interior landscape designs, installations, and service. Today, Sedgefield Interior Landscapes, Inc. services the “Interior Landscapes” of greater Metro Atlanta, Georgia.
David Korstad, Sedgefield’s current president, was also involved with ALCA on a national level. He served on the Board of Directors of the Interior Landscape Division (ILD) for 10 years and was chairman of ILD in 1986. During his chairmanship, ALCA-ILD absorbed the other national trade association representing the industry, the Interior Plantscape Association.
Sedgefield is guided today by its Board of Directors and Managers:
- David Korstad, CEO / President
- Margaret Korstad, Vice President
- Ricky McDaniel, General Manager
